In this research project, Dr. Miguel Rivera, Assistant Professor of Pathology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School is identifying the critical pathways in medulloblastoma through epigenomic analysis. The aim of this project is to find new critical genes involved in medulloblastoma by identifying abnormal patterns of gene regulation through chromatin profiling. This project is based on research from original studies, funded by AKBTC, which established the feasibility of producing high quality chromatin state maps of medulloblastoma cell lines and primary tumors. It is anticipated that the outcome of this study will identify genes that are abnormally regulated and that may have important functions in tumor survival. After identifying these genes, the project will study their function and potential as therapeutic targets by testing their properties in tissue culture models.
